Nesquehoning's recreation commission is putting together care packages for area soldiers serving overseas.

Councilwoman Mary Fox, who chairs the recreation committee, told council on Wednesday that the recreation commission is looking for donations of various items to send to military personnel.Items being accepted include Chapstick, body wash, energy drink powder, eye drops, bug repellent, battery fans, beef jerky, first aid items, greeting cards, non-aerosol deodorant, playing cards, hard candy, Pringles, puzzle books, K-cups, socks, personal hygiene items, nonperishable food items and more.Councilman Don DeMarco added that Rain-X should also be included because it can be used on soldiers' goggles to help keep moisture off them.The commission is collecting items until March 9. Things can be dropped off either at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center on Wednesday during bingo; between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the borough office; or between 9:30 a.m. and noon on Sunday at Meed's Methodist Church.In other recreation news, Breakfast with the Easter Bunny for borough children will take place at 10 a.m. March 19 at the recreation center. Children are free and adults are $3.Registration for the breakfast is due by March 9 and can be done at the center from 5 to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays.
