Repairs to bridge to cost W. Penn over $15K

Repairs to Water Wheel bridge will cost West Penn Township over $15,000.

On a unanimous measure, supervisors on Monday agreed to have Mark Boyle repair the bridge on Water Wheel Road in the amount of $15,500.

The board took that action after Boyle’s quote was previously approved by PennDOT.

In addition, supervisors agreed to have board solicitor Paul J. Datte draw up a contract to have the work done.

If PennDOT had denied Boyle’s quote, the board would have continued with a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Multimodal Grant in the amount of $102,196, for which the township would need to come up with the balance of $44,028 to complete the project cost of $146,224.

Supervisor Tim Houser said last month that while he wasn’t opposed to Boyle doing the work, he wanted to make sure that PennDOT would approve the repairs.

The bridge has a deteriorating beam.
