Plea for Walmart thefts
A Luzerne County man admitted in Carbon County court on Tuesday his involvement in four retail theft incidents at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township in which large-screen televisions were the main target.
George Anthony Kraynak Jr., 23, of Hazleton, pleaded to the four counts of retail theft before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic and was placed on probation for a total of six years on the four counts.Township police charged Kraynak with entering the store on April 3, 4, 6 and 24. In three of the incidents large-screen televisions were taken. In the fourth incident various items from other parts of the store were removed. Two other people from Hazleton were also charged in connection with the thefts. Hollie Lynn Carsia, 28, is facing charges in three of the thefts and Stanley Carter, 27, in the April 24 incident.Carsia was scheduled to enter a plea yesterday in the three cases she was charged but it was continued because she was recently arrested in Luzerne County on other counts. Carter is scheduled for a pretrial conference in October in the case he is charged in.Kraynak said he stole the items to support a heroin addiction."I've been in a downhill spiral for the past two years," he told the court. He added, "I want to get my life together."He said he spent seven days in a detox program which he said did nothing for him. He said the day he was released from the program he was back using heroin.Kraynak also faces a restitution bill of $1,023.63, which is one-half of the total due.Kraynak, who has been in jail for the past four months facing a drug delivery charge in Schuylkill County, was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
