Dougherty named captain at Moravian

Palmerton graduate Nate Dougherty has been named as one of four captains of the Moravian University’s men’s basketball team for the 2021-22 season.

Dougherty, a junior, entered the season having played in 31 games for the Greyhounds with 12 starts, including all nine games last season. He has contributed 100 points, 62 rebounds, 19 assists and 15 steals for Moravian, and was named to the 2021 Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.

“I’m excited to announce our four captains for the upcoming basketball season,” stated Interim Head Coach Mike Frew. “Senior Danny Cooper commands respect from his coaches and teammates alike. Junior Nate Dougherty leads by example on and off the court. Sophomore CJ Weber is a vocal leader in the locker room and on the court. Sophomore Alex Dietz plays hard every day and outworks the competition. These four guys will guide our journey this season.”

The Greyhounds are 1-1 this season, dropping their season opener to Muhlenberg on Friday before breaking into the win column Monday night against Penn State Brandywine. Dougherty had 10 points and six rebounds in the opener, and followed that up with a game-high 21 points in the team’s victory. In that contest, he also contributed four rebounds and six assists.

Moravian’s next game is Tuesday, Nov. 16 versus Delaware Valley.
