Gil Allison of Tamaqua, president of the Schuylkill County Housing Authority, reported to the board at its monthly meeting Thursday in Pottsville that HUD had approved a grant of $397,800 for replacing the Majestic Theater at Pine and Broad streets in Tamaqua, into a 75-unit housing complex for low and moderate income people.
He said the developers will be Claridge Projects Inc., New York, and A.J. Gross and Associates, Wilkes-Barre.
Allison said he learned of the approval after making inquiries on behalf of George Wenzel, Tamaqua council president, who asked the authority for help to get the project going at the hotel site.
