The Palmerton Area School District Music Department is about to make history.
That's because the district's music department will present its first ever Music In Our Schools Month district wide concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school gymnasium. The concert is free and open to the public, and will feature bands and choruses from Towamensing and S.S. Palmer Elementary Schools, the junior high school, and the high school. The groups will perform individually, and the bands will join together for a combined finale. The bands and choruses will unite with the audience in closing the concert with the Alma Mater.Tom Heinick, high school concert and marching bands, high school general music, S.S. Palmer Elementary Instrumental Music and Band, Towamensing Elementary Instrumental Music and Band, said the concert is a can't miss event."For the past 30 years, the National Association for Music Education has deemed March as a time to observe music's importance in schools and in life," Heinick said. "And while the Palmerton schools have done MIOSM activities in the past, this is the first large combined event of its nature."
