Carbon County court — DUI
Fifteen defendants in pending driving under the influence cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Friday.
Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted pleas from the following:
Amanda L. Stuckley, 37, of Lehighton, was arrested on July 23, 2017, by Lehighton police along East Alley for DUI of a controlled substance. At the time she had her 1-year-old son in the vehicle. A charge of endangering the welfare of a child was dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office. The case has a long history with 24 continuances filed in the matter.
Sentencing was deferred.
Beth A. White, 36, of Lehighton, was arrested on July 31, 2020, by Lehighton police along Bridge Street. At the time she had a 13-year-old female in the vehicle. A charge of endangering the welfare of a child was dropped in a plea deal.
Sentencing was deferred so she can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for the house arrest program.
Lonnie P. Rex, 46, of Palmerton, was arrested on May 23, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Maiden Lane in Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.
A first offense he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.
Harold McFarland Jr., 58, of Bowmanstown, was arrested on Sept. 5, 2020, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance along Keystone Alley in Lehighton.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Terry A. Gergar Jr., 37, of Hazleton, was arrested on Oct. 22, 2019, by Nesquehoning police at routes 209 and 93. He refused a test.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Alicia Ann Edsall, 30, of Palmerton, was arrested on March 13, by state police at Lehighton along Hahns Dairy Road in Lower Towamensing Township. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.
She was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.
Russell M. Jacoby, 54, of Slatedale, was arrested on Nov. 22, 2020, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance along Bank Street in Bowmanstown.
Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.
Eric D. Ransom, 32, of Martins Creek, Monroe County, was arrested on April 22 by Franklin Township police along Route 209. A test revealed a 0.29 BAC.
Ransom is currently an inmate in the Northampton County prison awaiting transfer to a state correctional institution on a sentence imposed in Northampton County.
Matika sentenced him to serve 90 days to 60 months in a state prison, pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months, render 100 hours of community service when paroled and supply a DNA sample. The sentence runs concurrent with Northampton County.
Jennifer Hess, 44, of Summit Hill, was arrested on May 11 by Summit Hill police for DUI of a controlled substance along Panther Pride Drive (Route 209).
Sentencing was deferred so she can apply for the house arrest program.
Barry Lee Lower, 21, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Feb. 18 by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance along Route 443 at Penn Street in Lehighton.
Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.
Robert C. Eder, 50, of Lehighton, was arrested on Jan. 3 by Lehighton police along Route 443. A test revealed a 0.29 BAC.
He was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $300, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. He was given credit for 14 days already served in prison and paroled.
Patrick William Lenover, 57, of Bethlehem, was arrested on March 14 by state police at Fern Ridge along Route 903 in Kidder Township. A test revealed a 0.08 BAC.
He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.
Shana Kunkle, 43, of Weatherly, was arrested on April 14 by Weatherly police along Main Street. A test revealed a 0.16 BAC.
She was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.
Felix Antonio Baez, 25, of Lansford, was arrested on May 19, 2018, by Lansford police for DUI of a controlled substance along Kline Avenue.
Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.
Vincent A. Iuspa, 27, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Aug. 4, 2018, along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.
He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service.
He was given credit for two days already served and began serving his third day at 8 a.m. on Sept. 26.
Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
