Search crews went looking for two women and four children who were lost Friday afternoon in the Glen Onoko area of Lehigh Gorge State Park.

Bill Diehm, the fire chief for the Jim Thorpe Fire Department, said one of the women called into the Carbon County Communications Center around 2 p.m. asking for help.She and her group had gotten off the trail and couldn't find their way back, he said."It's easy to get lost up there," Diehm said.Sometimes people start to follow a deer trail and not realize they have gotten off the park's trail, he said.Many of the people on the rescue crews are hunters and know the area very well. When the call came in, the women were told, "Stay put. We're coming to get you."The women knew they were close, because they could see people in a distance.But they couldn't figure out how to get back to where they first got off the trail, Diehm said.Members of the Jim Thorpe and the Lehigh and Lausanne Rural Volunteer fire departments comprised two teams of four people and went looking for the women and children.Through a series of hollering to the lost people who hollered back to the search crews, they were found a few hundred yards off the trail in the glen, Diehm said. By 4:30 p.m., they were safely back to the parking lot."They were very glad to be off the mountain, and none the worse for wear," he said.None of the women or children sustained any injuries."And we were happy, too."
