Library offers October activities

There is always something new and different at the Palmerton Area Library.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Friends of the Library are sponsoring a program called "Weird Pennsylvania," presented by Victorian Vanities Inc. Hear lots of tales of the weird and strange in Pennsylvania. This free program is open to all.Computer classes are again being offered at the library from 5-7 p.m. Thursdays. Classes offered this fall include: Intro to Computers; Intro to Internet and email; Microsoft Office and Excel; and Social Media and Mobile Devices. Call the library at 610-826-3424 for more information.The Eighth Annual Quilt Show will be from noon-4 p.m. Oct. 12. There will be door prizes, vendors, an auction and best of show prizes. To enter a new or antique quilt, call the library. This show is sponsored by The Sew What Quilt Guild.Bedtime Math is a program that strives to make math a part of kids everyday lives. With fun activities such as Bouncy Dice Explosion and Toilet Paper Olympics, Bedtime Math makes math more fun for kids.On the first three Fridays in October from 6:30-7:30 p.m., the library will present programs for kids and parents at the library. Snacks will be provided. Each night is a different age level, so call the library for details. Parents must register their children in advance since space and supplies are limited.The library is looking for handcrafted items for its annual auction in November. If you sew, quilt, knit, crochet, make jewelry, work with wood or any other hobby, please consider donating an item to the library. All proceeds from the auction go to the library general fund to help keep the library open. Items are needed by Oct. 31.Preschool story hour is at 10:30 a.m. every Friday at the library. It is free and open to the public with no advance registration.Homework Helpers for grades 1-8 will begin on Monday and continue on each Monday and Wednesday after school. Volunteer tutors will help your child with his or her homework and other assignments. This program is free but parents must register each child.The Knitting Club meets on the first and third Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m. This club is free and open to anyone interested in knitting or crocheting of all skill levels.Yoga classes meet at the library at 9 a.m. every Saturday.
