Carbon County court

A Carbon County man entered a guilty plea in two pending criminal cases in the county court on Monday, including fleeing police.

He was one of seven defendants in pending cases to enter a guilty plea before President Roger N. Nanovic II.

Warrant

Matthew Scott Creveling, 32, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of flight to avoid apprehension, a felony 3; and simple assault, a misdemeanor 2, in two pending cases.

He was charged with the flight count for an incident on March 26. Lansford police saw Creveling in the area of Bertsch and Chestnut streets and knew there was a felony warrant for him. Police told him they had a warrant for his arrest and he fled on foot. He later turned himself in to police.

The assault occurred on Feb. 28 filed by Lansford police for an incident in the 500 block of East Bertsch Street. Police said Creveling got into a fight with another man. He punched and kicked the victim, officers said.

Creveling is currently an inmate in the county prison on the two cases.

Nanovic accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing to a later date.

Other pleas

Jarred Ricky Lee West, 30, formerly of Lehighton and currently an inmate in the county prison, pleaded to one count of criminal trespass, as a felony 2. A burglary charge was dropped in a plea deal.

He was charged by state police at Lehighton with entering a garage on property along Berger Creek Road in Penn Forest Township on May 28, 2018.

Sentencing was deferred with Nanovic ordering the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.

Jessica Lee Thorpe, 29, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of disorderly conduct as a summary offense. The charge was added to the complaint with counts of endangering the welfare of a child and neglect of a dependent person dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office.

Lansford police arrested Thorpe after receiving information that her two children were being neglected. The report said that the two boys had serious dental problems.

She told Nanovic her two sons were receiving treatment for the dental problems.

Nanovic imposed a fine of $300 and costs.

Alicia Sidari, 47, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of criminal mischief. In exchange for the plea charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and theft were dropped.

She was charged by Lansford police with taking a 2005 Cadillac without the owner’s permission.

She was placed on probation for six months and ordered to make restitution of $100.

Vehicle violations

Devin Tucker, 30, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to a charge of speeding, 45 mph in a 25 zone, filed by Nesquehoning police for an incident along Catawissa Street on Oct. 9, 2019. In exchange for the plea, two drug charges were dropped.

Nanovic imposed a fine of $71 and costs.

Melissa Tessitore, 44, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of driving under suspension. She was arrested on Sept. 23, 2020, by Lansford police along Bertsch Street.

She was fined $2,500 and costs.

Waldemar Volkers, 59, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of operating a vehicle without a valid inspection sticker. He was arrested on Feb. 22, 2020, along East Catawissa Street by Nesquehoning police. Charges of resisting arrest and obstruction in the administration of law were dropped in a plea deal.

Nanovic imposed a fine of $25 and costs.

ARD placement

Kerstin Bernhardt, 19, of Shickshinny, was placed in the county’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program for a year on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Jan. 23 by Lansford police along Walnut Street.

She was assessed $650 for the cost of the program and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

If she successfully completes the program her record will be wiped clean, if not, she will face trial on the charge. She did not admit guilt in entering the program.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee if on probation or parole.
