Lehighton Band to present Disney-themed concert

The Lehighton Band, under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley, will present its second summer concert under the stars at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lehighton Park Amphitheater.

The theme of the concert is “The Music of Disney.”

The majority of the songs in the concert are songs that are associated with Disney movies, attractions and music from the parks.

There will also be traditional marches and other songs mixed in so there is sure to be something for everyone in this fun summer concert.

After “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the band will kick off its Disney theme with a Disney Medley March arranged by John Neumann, which includes “Whistle While you Work,” “It’s a Small World” and the “Mickey Mouse March.”

The next number will be “Soundtrack Highlights” from “Hercules” arranged by Calvin Custer. The songs from this Disney movie favorite include “The Gospel Truth,” “One Last Hope,” “Go the Distance” and “Zero to Hero.”

The band will then perform “Little April Showers” from the movie “Bambi,” before it takes a short break from Disney and goes back to 1961 to perform the hit song “Cupid,” which was made famous by Sam Cooke.

The band will then play the Karl King march “Gallant Marines,” before it performs a nontraditional Disney-related song titled “Soundtrack Highlights,” from “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which includes “Marvel Studios Fanfare,” “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Come and Get Your Love,” “Groot Cocoon,” “Cherry Bomb” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” It is arranged for band by Michael Brown.

The band will next play a Disney song titled “One Little Spark,” followed by a song titled “Disney Parks Medley,” which was arranged by Lehighton Band’s principal flutist, Laura Reichard. The song includes bits of music from rides, attractions and parades that Disneyland and Disney World are famous for.

“Disney Around the World” is the next selection for the band, and includes “Robin Hood Fanfare,” “It’s a Small World,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Colonel Hathi’s March,” “I Wan’na be Like You,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” “Night on Bald Mountain,” “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” “Under the Sea” and “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah.”

The band will also play “Remember Me” from the popular Disney movie “Coco.”

The band’s final Disney selection is “Symphonic Highlights” from “Frozen,” which includes “Frozen Heart,” “Let it Go,” “Do you Want to Build a Snowman?” “For the First Time in Forever” and “Epilogue.”

The band will then play “Satisfaction,” made popular by The Rolling Stones on their 1965 “Out of Our Heads” album.

The band will close with the very popular John Philip Sousa march, “Washington Post.”

The Lehighton Band is also planning one additional summer concert, and will also perform in the new Angelo Scarselletti Amphitheater in Slatington’s Victory Park from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 29.

The concert is free to the public, but donations are greatly appreciated. The band is in the process of changing banks, so it cannot currently accept checks for donations.

The band invites guests to come out to the Lehighton Park Amphitheater and enjoy an evening of music. Park benches are available, and there are spaces for folding chairs as well.
