WANTED: A forever home

There is one week left to adopt a dog at a reduced rate in Carbon County.

The Carbon County Commissioners have earmarked February as Adopt a Dog for Life month and reduced the adoption fee from $100 to $50. The lower rate will be available at the Carbon County Animal Shelter until 4:30 p.m., Friday.Tom Connors, manager at the shelter, said that the promotion really helped a number of dogs find forever homes."I think the program has worked fantastic so far," he said Friday afternoon. "It brought attention to the shelter."So far this month, seven dogs have been adopted.Connors shared a few happy stories. One dog, Rieley, who was at the shelter for nearly a year, found a new home with a nice couple this month; while another dog, Wetzel, was adopted by a young family whose son wanted to adopt using his birthday money. He noted that there are 14 dogs currently at the shelter still waiting to find families. They include a variety of breeds, including pitbull mixes, a husky, shepherd mixes and even a few dogs that appear to be part beagle. If you are interested in adopting, contact the Carbon County Animal Shelter at 570-325-4828; visit the shelter between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday or 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays; or visit
