Charges against a Berks County man accused of beating up a Lehighton man and making him strip naked in Slatington earlier this month have been withdrawn.

Raul Caraballo, 36, of Reading, was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault and simple assault.However, the charges were withdrawn because the victim, Jarod West, of Lehighton, didn't show, according to Slatington Borough Police Chief Dave Rachman."Unless the victim comes forward, it will be reinvestigated; the(district attorney's) office will make the determination if we refile or not," Rachman said. "We haven't had contact with him, and he can't be located."West initially told police he was visiting a home at 801 Main St., first floor, in Slatington, early Jan. 4 when Caraballo came in from a rear door and assaulted him.He told police Caraballo pistol-whipped and robbed him. West told police he was punched in the face with a closed fist, and also struck in the head several times with a metallic/metal object that resembled a gun.Multiple injuries were observed on West's head and neck.Other people present at the location at the time of the incident were interviewed and confirmed that Caraballo did have a metallic object that appeared to be a gun, and that Caraballo struck West several times in the head with the object, and a closed fist.After the assault, West said that he was told by Caraballo to remove all his clothing and leave. West did as he was told by Caraballo and ran outside.Slatington Police noticed a naked West running northbound on Main Street, and eventually caught up with him.Officers from several police departments surrounded the building, at which time they attempted to make contact with the parties inside, but no one would respond to the door.The Lehigh County Municipal Emergency Response Team arrived on scene, and took over the perimeter of the building.Eventually, several people came out of the apartment and surrendered, at which time they were taken in for questioning.
