Weatherly woman sent to state prison for theft, drugs into prison counts

A Weatherly woman was sentenced to a state prison term on Monday afternoon in Carbon County court after pleading guilty to charges of theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled substance - contraband into the county prison, a felony.

Alexis Kendra Hines, 21, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve a total of six to 24 months in a state correctional institution.

Hines admitted stealing four gold diamond rings worth $11,200 from her grandfather and then selling them for just over $100 at a pawnshop. When picked up on a warrant and taken to the county prison on Aug. 9, 2020, she was found in possession of methamphetamine.

Beaver Meadows police charged her on Nov. 8, 2018, for the theft of the rings from her grandfather. A boyfriend was also involved and shared in the $100 from the sale.

Hines admitted to a drug abuse problem and claimed she stole to feed her habit.

In addition to the prison term she was ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000 and make restitution of $56.25, her share in the sale of the rings.

She entered her plea via video from the county prison, where she had been held since her arrest on the warrant. She was given credit for 429 days already served.
