An elderly man, a former resident of Carbon County, admitted on Tuesday in the county court he sexually assaulted a young girl for an extended period of time.

Curtis P. Strohl, 76, of Mission, Texas, pleaded guilty before Judge Joseph J. Matika to one count each of corruption of a minor, a felony 3, and misdemeanor 1 count of indecent assault.State police at Lehighton charged that Strohl assaulted the girl about 25 times between the summer months of 2009 and 2014. The victim was between the ages of 8 and 13 at the time.Assistant District Attorney Seth Miller, who is prosecuting the case, said the victim and her family agreed to the plea bargain which has charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, and aggravated indecent assault dropped.The incidents occurred at a campground in East Penn Township.Matika told Strohl that the corruption charge calls for a prison term at the minimum of between 6 and 12 months.The defendant said nothing at the proceeding except answer "yes" or "no" to questions asked of him by Matika.The judge deferred sentencing because the charges fall under the provisions of Megan's Law. Strohl will have to undergo an evaluation by the state sexual assessment board to determine if he is a sexually violent predator. If it's determined he is, then he will have to register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life.If not, the registration period is 15 years. Matika also told the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
