The fourth annual Heritage Day in Palmerton went off as planned despite dreary conditions that did little to dampen the spirits of descendants of the first residents of Carbon County.

Sponsored by the Lehigh Gap Historical Society, the event's air was filled with the rhythmic sounds of the Palmerton Area High School Jazz Band and Tom Heinze's Jazz Band.The event featured the presentation of a certificate of appreciation by Larry Yeakel, president of the society, to Dr. E. Jane Goplerud, Palmerton Hospital obstetrician and gynegologist for the past 48 years.Mayor Peter J. Delich welcomed the crowd.
