FEBRUARY 11, 1985An announcement was made that the Hotel Switzerland, a Jim Thorpe landmark, has been sold.The transferring of the deed occurred when Peter Weiksner, executor of the estate of his father, Al, sold the property to Jeffrey A. Reitz of Langhorne Manor, Bucks County, and his brother, Hal Reitz of Norristown.The hotel is the oldest building in Jim Thorpe. Members of the Odd Fellows Lodge met there in 1842 until their building was completed in 1844. An 1849 fire destroyed the former courthouse and left the Weiksner Building and the Odd Fellows Lodge as the only buildings standing.According to the new owners, the first floor will be remodeled immediately with hopes to restore the building "to the grandeur it was when Coal was King in Jim Thorpe."
