Gold Star mom from Jim Thorpe to appear in show
A Gold Star mother from Jim Thorpe will appear in Episode 4 of Warrior Summit Outdoors hosted by three-tour combat veteran retired Staff Sgt. Erik Olson, set to premiere at 9 p.m. Wednesday on WYLNTV35 from Hazleton.
Olson and three other veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan tackle a whitewater kayaking challenge on the Lehigh River under the instruction of Jerry McAward and his team at Northeast PA Kayak School in Jim Thorpe.Ann Baddick Adams, who lost her son A.J. Baddick in Iraq, is featured the episode that educates the public that families often have their own wounds from war in need of healing. Before war, Baddick was a regular at Northeast PA Kayak School, providing instruction and enjoying the challenge of the rapids from the time he was a young child. Baddick lost his life heroically in 2003 saving others in his convoy in Iraq. Their vehicle flipped into a canal, trapping several under water. Without thought of self and given his experience in water, Baddick went in to rescue his brothers in arms. While he pulled a number to safety, the vehicle shifted, trapping and killing Baddick. He was 26 years old.Adams had not visited Northeast PA Kayak School since her son's death, even though she lives right down the road from it. It was only when she learned from McAward that several combat veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan would be there taking kayaking lessons that she decided to make an appearance. The veterans were honored that Adams chose to share her son's story and do so on camera to honor his memory. In this episode, Adams and the combat veterans have a wonderful talk and many hugs, which helped in the healing processfor all.Olson and his wife, Tiffany Cloud Olson, who coexecutive produce the show, are honored to dedicate this upcoming new episode of Warrior Summit Outdoors to the memory of Baddick. You can see Warrior Summit Outdoors on WYLNTV35 each week at 9 p.m. Wednesday, as well as at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, 1:30 p.m. Saturday, noon and 10 p.m. Sunday, and 6:30 p.m. Monday. The show can also be watched on Lehigh Valley Cable and Communications covering the Allentown marketplace, and you can live stream the show during these regular viewing times on WYLNTV.com.To learn more about the show, go to
