How Schuylkill voted

In the statewide races Schuylkill County voters cast ballots as follows:

For a seat on the state Supreme Court Democrats supported Maria McLaughlin with 8,195. On the GOP side Kevin Brobson won with 9,618 votes in a four-person field.

For a seat on the state Superior Court Democrats supported Jill Beck with 3,960 votes in a three-person field. Megan Sullivan was the lone Republican candidate and got 14,918 votes.

For a seat on the Commonwealth Court, Democrats went for Lori A. Dumas with 4,750 votes in a four-person field. On the GOP side Drew Crompton got 11,702 vote in a two-person field.

Ballot questions

The question concerning termination or extension of disaster emergency declarations was supported in the county with 18,461 yes votes to 9,736 no votes.

The second question concerning disaster emergency declaration and management was also supported by 18,686 yes votes and 9,678 no.

Third question concerning prohibition against denial or abridgement of equality won with 17,907 yes to 10,200 no.

And the final question concerning municipal fire and emergency medical services was supported with 20,475 yes votes to 7,922.

District judge

There were three magisterial district judge positions, six-year terms, up for election on Tuesday in the county with only one having a challenge.

The DJ post that covers the Frackville area and formerly held by Judge Christina Hale was up for election to finish her term.

There were plenty of candidates with six cross-filing.

The winner was Edward J. Taranteli as he captured both nominations. He got 386 Democratic votes and 1,031 on the GOP side.

As for the other hopefuls, on the Democratic side, falling behind Taranteli were Todd Selgrade with 333 votes; Anthony Tony J. Urban, 268; Brandon Alexander, 253; John Malinchok, 220; and Scott E. Taylor, 164. On the GOP side those finishing behind Taranteli were Malinchok, 552, Urban, 487; Alexander, 431; Selgrade, 367; and Taylor, 268.

Incumbent David Plachko, Port Carbon, sought another six-year term and got 1,791 Democratic votes and 1,807 GOP tallies.

Incumbent Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, got 924 Democratic votes and 976 Republican for another six-year term.
