An Effort man has been charged with choking his girlfriend and threatening to kill her.
Pennsylvania State Police Fern Ridge barracks gave detail in the affidavit of probable cause against Charles Unangst:
At 4:50 p.m. May 12, O’Shura was contacted by a licensed counselor who said he was a mandated reporter and that he was contacted by the victim, who told him about a domestic violence incident.
Police went to the victim’s residence in the 500 block of Shane Drive, Chestnuthill Township. The woman said that four days earlier, she was at a motel located along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township with her boyfriend, Unangst, 58.
The victim said that they got into an argument that turned physical, as Unangst became upset with her and threw her into a wall.
She said Unangst then threw her onto the bed and started choking her while saying he was going to kill her.
Her left eye was black and blue.
She said she told Unangst that she wanted to go home and that they got into her car.
She said that Unangst was driving and began driving extremely erratic, as he was going 92 mph.
As he was doing this, the victim said that Unangst told her it was time to die and told her to pick the tree she wanted him to drive into.
The victim said to Unangst that she promised to stay with him if he would just take her home, which he eventually did.
Unangst faces charges of strangulation; terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another; simple assault; harassment; and recklessly endangering another person.
He is currently incarcerated in the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing May 28 before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
