Palmerton car show set Saturday in borough park

Back by popular demand, the Pace-Makers Association. will host the Palmerton Car Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the borough park, rain or shine.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. in the park. There is a $10 registration fee.Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 cars.A total of 25 awards will be presented in the following categories: Best Convertible; Boy's Choice, Ages 13-16; Girl's Choice, Ages 13-16; Best Paint Job; Best Pickup Truck; Best Graphics; Best Street Rod; Borough Council Choice (chosen by a member of Palmerton Borough Council); Mayor's Choice (chosen by the mayor of Palmerton); Best Grocery Getter; Highest 4-by-4 Truck (ground to highest part of cab); Best Motorcycle; Best Rat Rod; Furthest Driven; Best Getaway Car; Best Engine; Best Interior; Best Tuner Car (foreign or domestic); Best "Under Construction;" Best Pro Street; Best Muscle Car; Best Corvette; Best Late Model (2000 and up); Pace-Makers Association Award for the most vehicles by one club (monetary award); and Oldest Vehicle.Judging will occur from noon to 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m.No alcohol or burnouts allowed. All vehicles must be licensed, insured, inspected and street legal.All proceeds benefit local youth recreational and sports organizations.About $63,350 has been raised and donated to area recreation over the years.After a 14-year absence, the event returned last year amid much fanfare, as about 240 vehicles registered to be a part of the event.The first car show in the borough was held in 1990. In 1998, the Pace-Makers Association held its annual "Rolling Cruise" in addition to the car show.In 2000, the Pace-Makers held its 10th and final car show.The "Rolling Cruise" continued to be held as an annual fundraiser until 2010, when club membership dwindled to about eight members.About $63,350 has been raised and donated to area recreation over the years.For more information, visit
