Palmerton school board business

The Palmerton School Board welcomed seven new personnel to the district during their recent meeting.

They are replacing existing employees. Their salaries are pending contract negotiations.The current contract with the Palmerton Area Education Association expired Thursday.New employeesThe new employees with salaries pending include:• Justin Petersen, high school science teacher• BrynaWitkowski, LTS school counselor at the high school• Kayla Creed, kindergarten teacher at Parkside Education Center• Shana O'Gurek, fourth-grade teacher at S.S. Palmer Elementary School.New employees not falling under the PAEA contract agreement include:• Lori Shaffer, building secretary at S.S. Palmer, at $29,523 prorated.• Becky Christman, Title I instructional assistant at Parkside Education Center at $14.05 per hour.• Jennifer Anthony, instructional assistant at S.S. Palmer, also at $14.05 per hour.TenureFive teachers made tenure, which means they attained three years of satisfactory ratings. These teachers include:• Kyle Porembo, high school• Katie McCarroll, Jacob Zurn and Tiffany Bachart, Towamensing Elementary School• Kaitlyn Andrews, S.S. Palmer Elementary School.CoordinatorsCurriculum coordinators also were announced for each school.• Parkside/S.S. Palmer: Holly Sell, Kindergarten-1; Roberta Yeager, grades 2-3; Meghan Barclay, grade 4; Deanna Iles, grade 5; and Monique Hofford, grade 6.• Towamensing Elementary: Joyce Paulinho, Kindergarten-1; Susan Warakomski, 2-3; Susan Deem, 4; Kathryn McKeon, 5; and Jaclyn Ivancich, 6.• Junior High School: Patricia Boyd and Kevin Kolodziejski, co-chair, English/language arts; Kim Seiler, social studies; and Kathy Englert, math/science.• Senior High School: Bonnie Tavella and Anna Corby, co-chair, English; Michael Gombert and Paul McArdle, co-chair, social studies; Pamela Wuest, math; Jeanne Knepper, science; Thomas Smelas, business; Jose Elvir, world language; Carol Andrews, health/physical education; Miranda Allen and Whitney Kern, co-chair, secondary specialist.PromotionsThree employees received salary promotions.Trisha Green went up from bachelor's degree level to bachelor's +24. Suzanne Lynn and Tricia Wampole went from bachelor's to master's level.
