Palmerton carnival begins tonight

The 10th annual Crusaders for a Cause spring carnival kicks off tonight from 6-10 in the borough park. It continues from 5-11 p.m. Friday; 4-11 p.m. Saturday; and 2-7 p.m. Sunday. Parking and admission are free.

Thursday and Sunday are Kids Ride Special Day, which comes with a rides discount.There is also a Chinese auction, drinks, games, and crafts. Horses for Hope will offer pony rides, while Apollo the alligator, and Pokey the sulcata tortoise, will be available from Christina's Reptile and Animal Sanctuary.Proceeds from the taco stand will benefit Christina's Reptile and Animal Sanctuary, Obrecht said.Saturday's entertainment will include a performance by Lenny & The Loafers from 4-7 p.m., DJ Brian Gombert from 4-7 p.m., and Red Panda from 7-11 p.m., while Sunday's entertainment will consist of DJ "Davey G" from 2-4 p.m., and Above the Mendoza from 5-7 p.m.Christina Obrecht, president of Crusaders for a Cause, said proceeds from this year's event will be donated to the American Cancer Society.Crusaders for a Cause was incorporated in May 2009, and raises money for charities, including Relay For Life/American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, March of Dimes and many other community causes or projects.Since then, Obrecht said about $18,000 has been donated to various charities.For more information:
