Weatherly Area Community Library will soon have a new home.

The organization recently purchased a 6,200-square-foot building at 1518 Brenkman Drive, Weatherly, from the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation, to use as its new site."CCEDC is extremely pleased to be able to sell our building to the Weatherly Library," said Kathy Henderson, director of economic development for the CCEDC.Robert vonFrisch of the Weatherly Area Community Library said the library, which is currently located in a rented space on Carbon Street, has become tight as services expand.Members have been looking for a new location for a while now."We looked at other options and then found this property for sale," he said, noting that the Brenkman property has a long history, serving first as a bowling alley and as the American Last Company, manufacturing forms for shoes before closing its doors. It has been owned by the CCEDC since November 2010.The library is now working with architect Daniel Poncavage to make the designs for the renovations.VonFrish said they have an aggressive timeline, hoping to have phase one of the renovations complete and the library moved in and open to the public in November. But the library has limited funds for additional phases and is currently working to begin its annual capital campaign, he said. The new library will continue to service the Weatherly community with book rentals, as well as Internet and copying services and various programs and clubs. Members also hope to expand services once they are settled in the new location.Donations are always welcome and can be sent to Weatherly Area Community Library, 20 Carbon St., Weatherly, PA 18255.For more information, visit
