Pleasant Valley’s baseball team won its sixth game in a row with a victory over Nazareth on Monday.

BASEBALL

Nazareth-Pleasant Valley

Brandi Ratti pitched a two-hitter to lead Pleasant Valley to a 5-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Nazareth.

Ratti walked one and struck out six as the Bears won their sixth game in a row.

PV (9-1) opened the scoring in the second on a groundout and a Chris Frable RBI single. Run-scoring doubles from Dominic Payan and Ratti in the sixth gave the Bears plenty of insurance to gain the win.

Pottsville-Lehighton

Nick Chivinski had three hits and scored two runs to help power Pottsville to an 11-1 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Mike Sukeena tossed a four-hitter and struck out seven for the Crimson Tide, while Luke Salem added a pair of hits and three runs scored.

The Indians (2-10; 0-7) received a hit and run scored from Grant Schaeffer. Randy Bongiorno, Branden Kocher and Richard Falla had Lehighton’s other hits.

Marian-Schuylkill Haven

Mike McGoey had two hits, knocked in two runs and scored twice to lead Schuylkill Haven to a 13-1 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

The Hurricanes (10-2; 6-1) also received a pair of hits from Jake Houtz and Jack Higgins. Winning pitcher Mason Ulsh allowed just two hits in five innings of work.

Luke Walser and Joey Walko had the hits for the Colts (3-6; 2-5), while Riley Katchur scored the team’s only run.

Marian falls to 3-6 overall, and 2-5 in the league.

Panther Vy.-Williams Vy.

Williams Valley pulled away from Panther Valley to gain a 12-3 Schuylkill League victory.

Zak Underkoffler led the way for the Vikings, collecting three hits - two of them doubles - and knocking in four runs. The winners also received two hits and three RBIs from Jess Engle.

The Panthers, who jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, received two hits and two runs from Derek Pavlik. Cody Orsilak also added a double and three RBIs.

The loss dropped PV to 11-3 overall, and 5-2 in the league.

Tamaqua-N. Schuylkill

North Schuylkill used a nine-run fifth inning to wipe out a Tamaqua lead and gain a 13-6 Schuylkill League victory.

The Blue Raiders received RBI singles from Kaleb Muschock and Lucas Schickram during a four-run fourth inning that gave Jeff Reading’s club a 6-3 advantage.

But Jacob Hall and Evan Stanakis both delivered two-run doubles, and Jaxson Chowansky hit a two-run home run in the fifth to power the Spartans’ comeback.

Mushock ended the contest with three hits and four RBIs for Tamaqua (2-8; 1-6), while Nate Wickersham and Lucas Milot both finished with a pair of hits.

Minersville-Weatherly

Minersville scored five times in the first inning, and continued to pile up runs in cruising to a 17-2 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Koda Whalen had a big day offensively for the Miners, finishing with four hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. John Adams also delivered three hits, two of them doubles, and scored three times.

The Wreckers (1-10; 0-7) received a hit and an RBI from both Jake Solonoski and Ian McLaurin. Solonoski’s hit was a double.

Tamaqua-N. Schuylkill

North Schuylkill used a three-run sixth inning to break a tie and earn a 4-1 Schuylkill Leaghue victory over Tamaqua.

Johannah Taylor snapped the tie score with an RBI single, whyile Shiana DeAngelo later added a two-run homer for the Spartans, who upped their winning streak to eight games.

Bryn Clifford accounted for the only run for the Blue Raiders (6-7; 4-4) as her RBI single in the second knocked in Riley MacMillan. Clifford suffered the loss despite allowing just six hits and no walks while striking out 13.

Marian-Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven rallied from a five-run deficit to hand Marian a 10-9 Schuylkill League loss.

Athena Matenkoski had four hits and scored two runs for the Fillies, who built a 9-4 advantage heading into the home fifth.

But the Hurricanes tallied six times in that inning to take the lead. Chloey Homan delivered a two-run triple during the comeback, while Carissa Yeager and Alexis Davis added RBI singles.

Marian (6-3; 4-3) also received a pair of hits from both Morgan Kelly and Anna Grabosky.

Lourdes-Jim Thorpe

Emily Yuskoski pitched a four-hitter to help Lourdes gain a 5-2 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Hailee Brown hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning as the Red Raiders scored four times in the inning to erase an Olympians’ 2-1 lead.

Thorpe (3-10; 2-6) received doubles from Nadya Soliman and Kristin Pompa, while Soliman also knocked in a run.

Pottsville-Lehighton

Pottsville raced to a 9-0 first-inning lead and cruised to a 16-4 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Victoria Fuss paced the Crimsom Tide with five hits, including a double and two triples. The winners also received a pair of hits from Jersey-Lynn Cook, Alex Blum, Sara Meade and Tayla Jones.

The Indians (2-9; 1-7) received an RBI triple from Addison Chavanic, while Alyssa Myers, Kendra Peterman and Abbie Miller all added two hits.

Nazareth-Pleasant Valley

Colleen Shuler knocked in six runs to lead an explosive Nazareth offense to a 22-6 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Shuler had three hits, including two doubles, in the rout. Rivers Edwards added four hits, three of them doubles, and knocked in two runs while Cassie Zellner finished with three hits, four runs and four RBIs.

The Bears’ Eve Kratzer drilled a two-run homer. PV’s Hailey Krock added a pair of hits and three runs, with Danica Getz contributing two hits and two RBIs.

The loss dropped the Bears to 0-4.

Two home runs from Abby Adams powered Minersville to an 11-1 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Kieran Plesnarski and MaKaila Frie-Karkanica also homered for the winners, who received a one-hit pitching performance from Aramie Arroyo.

The only hit for the Wreckers (8-4; 4-3) came from Ashley James.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Freedom-Northwestern

Abby Burnett scored five goals and had three assists to lead Freedom to a 17-4 victory over Northwestern.

The Patriots also received four goals from Caitlin Dunello, while Kailey Turpening added three goals and three helpers.

Claire Costa scored three goals for the Tigers, while Ali Lister finished with a goal and an assist.
