A woman admitted stealing money from her employer.

Stacey Ahner, 45, of Allentown, and formerly of Carbon County, appeared before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II and admitted stealing money from her employer, Schleicher’s Inc., of East Penn Township.

State police at Lehighton charged she took money from the firm while employed there by writing checks to herself and her son, took cash and used the company’s credit card without permission. The total loss to the company was $4,761.49.

The thefts were discovered after she was terminated from her position. In a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office, which was approved by the victim, Ahner was allowed to plead to one count of identity theft out of a total of 22 counts filed, if she deposited $5,000 with the collections bureau for payment to Schleicher on the day of her plea. Defense attorney Matthew G. Schnell said she made the deposit and presented proof to the district attorney’s office.

Nanovic asked her why she did it.

She said, “I was going through a lot at the time.”

She said her husband was unemployed and the family needed money.

Nanovic placed her on probation for seven years and ordered her to supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation and make restitution to Schleicher’s for $4,761.49, noting the amount has already been paid.
