Festival, car show in Jim Thorpe

Music and automobiles will be found in abundance on Saturday in Jim Thorpe when the eighth annual Cruise to the Music Festival & Car Show is held at the Jim Thorpe Memorial Park.

The festival is organized by United Way of Carbon County, which will use the proceeds to benefit its 17 member agencies. "This is a community festival that highlights and brings awareness to these agencies that do so much to help people in Carbon County," United Way of Carbon County Board President Greg Bott said.The festivities begin at 1 p.m. with the car cruise. The cars will end their drive at the park, where they will be available for people to observe. There will also be a trophy for best in show.Many of the musical acts that will be performing at the festival are local, such as the hard rock band

A.D.D., hailing from Lehighton, and the classic rock group The Bee's Knees, who call Jim Thorpe home. Other acts include Copperfields, LaNiece Mobley, Matt Miskie, The Identity Crisis Band, and Real West.This year's headlining act is the Main Street Cruisers. The Cruisers play a collection of rock 'n' roll hits from the '50s and '60s while giving a high-energy performance complete with dancing by the group's two lead vocalists.Food will be available at the festival from stands run by the agencies United Way supports. There will also be a beer garden for adults to enjoy as well as wine tasting. Kids will be able to have their own fun, with kid's activities taking place from 2 to 5 p.m. Other attractions include giveaways, vendors and crafters.The "local celebrity dunk tank" will be returning this year. Local celebrities going in the tank include TV-13 News weather anchor David Allen, Carbon County Commissioner Tom Gerhard, Jim Thorpe Chief of Police Joe Schatz, Weissport Redneck Festival representatives "Bubba" Duane Dellecker and "Bubba" Mike Troutman, and TV-13 News reporter Dan Snyder.People are asked to bring their own chairs to relax in and enjoy the sights and sounds.The festival is set to conclude at 10 p.m.
