TOPS tonight

TOPS PA 1113 Kresgeville (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will resume meeting tonight at Cherry’s Family Restaurant at 6 p.m. The meetings are held in the rear banquet room.

New members are being accepted and the invitation is extended to anyone who is interested in weight loss to come for a free introductory meeting. The programs are physician-based and well-known in the U.S. and Canada.

Wednesday service

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, Brodheadsville, church hosts a Wednesday evening service at 7 p.m.

Family food boxes

From the office of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, comes the announcement that the Farmers to Family Food Boxes delivery will resume this Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

QV cleanup day

This Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing to approximately 3 p.m., Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm will have its cleanup day. Volunteers can clean up the barnyard and barn, gift shop, workshop, education building and school house.

Chores range from washing windows, raking leaves to sweeping up dust and cob webs.

There are various chores for many ages.

Distribution day

Effort UMC’s Supplemental Food Resource Center is hosting a distribution day from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Planting begins

Saturday planting is set to begin at the Saylorsburg (McMichaels) Garden of Giving on Saturday with kale, Swiss chard, and other cold weather crops. It will begin at 9:30 a.m. and go to 4:30 p.m.

All COVID-19 safety guidelines are followed, with masks and distancing enforced.

Sanctuary service

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, has moved its service into the sanctuary with a limit of 57 people. However, one can also listen in one’s car from the parking lot or livestream. Worshippers are asked to bring their own elements on Communion Sunday.

Indoor services

Indoor worship has resumed at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville. Services are at 8 and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Physical distancing is practiced. Masks are required.

Two services Sunday

Effort UMC is returning to two services on Sunday mornings, at 8:30 and 11 a.m. However the 10 a.m. service will be retained for special occasions such as baptisms, new membership, and Confirmation and/or as the number of in-person attendance increases at the 8:30 and 11 services.

Online services will continue. Masks must be worn at all time when in the building and hand sanitizing will be required. A reservation process has been set up which is available on Thursdays through Saturdays before a Sunday service. To register to attend one of the services, go to the church website, effortumc.org. For those without access to email or internet, call the church office to reserve a spot. When registering for a service, one registration form must be completed for each person in the family.

Riders meeting

The Riders group, which meets at Post 927 in Gilbert, will be gathering for the group’s monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Sunday supper

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church’s Sunday supper will be takeout this Sunday at 3 p.m.

Divine Mercy

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will celebrate a Eucharistic Holy Hour for Divine Mercy Sunday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the church.

It will be livestreamed, and a worship aid would have been sent out during the week of April 4 for worshippers to use.

Blood drives

A Miller-Keystone blood drive will be held at St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown on Monday. Call the church at 610-381-2442 to book a time slot.

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26 at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville.

UMW meeting

Effort UMC’s United Methodist Women will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. The meeting will have members voting on whether or not the group remains as part of the UMW.

SAL is meeting

The Sons of the American Legion in Gilbert will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Post home in Gilbert.

Touch of Home

A regular monthly meeting of Operation: Touch of Home is slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert.

Legion Auxiliary

The monthly meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 927, will be held April 14 beginning at 6 p.m. for the Executive Committee and at 7 p.m. for the general membership.

Scholarship reminder

From Bernie Kozen, Executive Director of the West End Park and Open Space Commission, comes a reminder of the availability of two $2,000 scholarships to deserving Pleasant Valley School District graduates.

All properly completed applications must be received by the WEPOSC on or before April 15, 2021.

The Western Pocono Women’s Club has chosen Maria Saitta as recipient of the club’s sponsorship to HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Program)

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, has announced it will hold its annual festival and car show on Father’s Day, June 20.

Conservation Camp

Monroe County Conservation Camp will be held July 17-24. A weeklong residential program held at Stony Acres, a 119-acre wildlife sanctuary/recreational facility owned by the students of East Stroudsburg University in Marshalls Creek, the camp is open to students 14 years old to this year’s high school graduates and provides young people with hands-on classroom and field instruction covering many aspects of natural resource conservation and management.
