Blahy runs for seat on Lehighton school board
Myron "Zeke" Blahy is running for the Lehighton Area School Board.
His mission statement is "Lehighton Area Schools should have higher educational standards so that they appeal to surrounding communities as a great place to live and educate our children. We should renovate the schools we have and concentrate our efforts and energy into bringing academic standards to a Blue Ribbon rating.Blahy has been a longtime visitor to the Lehighton area, ever since his childhood days. He served seven years in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Cheltenham Township as a code enforcement officer, and now he and his wife have made Lehighton their home.Blahy likes to dedicate his time to the community. He often finds himself cleaning up the neighborhood by driving around, picking up tires, and disposing of them properly, so that residents can enjoy a trash-free environment.Blahy took interest in the Lehighton Area School Board by attending meetings. When asked why he is running, he said, "I notice at these meetings that time is spent arguing whether or not a 'mega' school should be built in Lehighton. No one seems to address and take interest in the educational system and what would benefit the future of the students."As Blahy drives by and looks at the beautiful elementary schools and their locations with striking views, he wonders why someone would want to uproot the students from such idyllic locations and place them in one big institutional building (what he calls a "mega school").These current elementary schools seem to work very well in their respective communities. The main objective, he said, is to renovate what we have and not spend taxpayer dollars for one large school. Each of the elementary schools is unique and exceptional in its own way.He said we can make repairs and save the taxpayers' money. The Lehighton area students will be at an advantage and benefit immensely in the environment they have enjoyed up until now.
