A Monroe County driver is facing charges, including fleeing police, following an incident that occurred on March 17. A Carbon driver is also facing charges following a traffic stop.
State police at Lehighton said at 7:30 p.m. troopers attempted to stop a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 truck along Kunkletown Road at Mountain View Road in Polk Township, for traffic violations. The driver failed to stop despite siren and emergency lights activated. A pursuit began and the fleeing driver committed multiple traffic violations before he pulled over.
The driver was identified as Robert Leibold, 52, of Kunkletown. It was learned that Leibold had active bench warrants for his arrest for fleeing and eluding police and drug offenses. Leibold displayed signs of impairment and refused testing. He was charged with fleeing and eluding while DUI, DUI and numerous traffic violations. He was placed in the county prison in Snydersville.
On March 18 at 3:32 a.m. troopers stopped a 204 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo along Long Hollow Lane at Troxell Road in Mahoning Township, Carbon County. The driver, a 38-year-old man from Lansford, who troopers declined to identify, was suspected of DUI of a controlled substance. He refused to submit to a test. Troopers said he will be charged.
