A New England-based office products company is announcing it has acquired a Tamaqua stationery store that served the local community for 65 years.

W.B. Mason of Brockton, Massachusetts, the largest privately held office products dealer in the U.S., is indicating on its corporate website that Klingaman's Office Supply is now part of the Mason corporation."Klingaman's has joined W.B. Mason Company," states the Mason website."You can expect the same great personal service you've come to rely on."Klingaman's operates out of locations in Tamaqua and Pottsville.Owner Wayne Klingaman acknowledged a transition to new hands some weeks ago but deferred comment to the new owners.W.B. Mason's corporate communications division declined when asked to provide additional information.The exact date of the sale is unclear.However, Klingaman's commercial clients have been receiving their invoices and regular Klingaman communications printed on new W.B. Mason letterhead since late last year.On Monday, Klingaman's posted a sign at the Tamaqua storefront indicating the store is now "closed for inventory."The Tamaqua location employs seven full-time workers.W.B. Mason's intent for Klingaman's two Schuylkill County stores is unclear.According to Klingaman's Facebook page, the store handles a wide variety of office supplies."We are a family owned and operated office supply business, serving our customers with dependable service for over 50 years. Klingaman's provides over 26,000 office products to businesses of all sizes from home offices to multistate corporate accounts," states the site.Klingaman's was established in 1950 by the late William K. Klingaman Sr., and was opened in 1951.The company has changed locations several times to accommodate growth. The present location at 124-128 E. Broad St., houses retail sales, warehouse space, a full-service department and corporate offices.In 1992, Klingaman's expanded by opening a branch store at 12-14 N. Centre St., Pottsville.According to its website, Klingaman's serves central, eastern and northeastern Pennsylvania. The extensive service area includes Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, Stroudsburg, Allentown, Reading and Schuylkill and Carbon counties.The store has been family owned throughout its history.After the passing of founder William Klingaman, the operation transitioned to sons William K. Jr., Charles and Wayne.Klingaman's new owner has been a force in the industry for more than a century.Established in 1898, W.B. Mason has a workforce of over 2,300 employees and operates in 12 states in the Northeast, Midwest, and mid-Atlantic with showrooms and warehouses in 30 locations.According to online sources, W.B. Mason sales exceed $1 billion.
