Kidder Township zoners OK variance for country club

The Kidder Township Zoning Hearing Board met Monday evening to review the amended application for a zoning variance requested by Split Rock Country Club.

Split Rock Country Club, represented at the hearing by W. Jack Kalins, who is a part owner of the property, along with Shelly Lutz, had requested a variance which would allow the separation of the parcel of land measuring 2.808 acres, from the rest of the property known as the Split Rock Country Club. The country club consists of a parcel of land in excess of 300 acres which includes the golf course and the clubhouse. The parcel to be separated consists of a building located at the corner of Wolf Hollow and Moseywood Roads. The building was commonly referred to as "The Welcome Center" and includes a parking area."This should have been done a long time ago," Kalins said. "It's about the property taxes on the existing building."Under the current zoning regulations, Resort Commercial Zoning requires properties to have a minimum of 50 acres, 50 foot setbacks and 300 foot lot widths. The parcel, as described in the application would fall short of all three requirements. It was noted that the Carbon County Planning Commission recommended approval of the variance. The zoning hearing board determined that approval of the variance would not create a hardship or have any negative impact on any surrounding properties. The variance was approved. The matter is scheduled to come before the Kidder Township Planning Commission on March 5.The commission had the subdivision request on its agenda when it met last week, however, the matter was tabled to await information presented at the zoning hearing board, as well as the revised plans.
