The Walnutport Canal Association is concerned that a 1.5-mile stretch of the Lehigh Canal, south of Walnutport, may deteriorate beyond repair in the next few years.

The association currently holds a 20-year lease for the land from the Three Mile Boating Association and is responsible for paying taxes and making the land available for recreational uses.Since it does not own the land, the WCA is unable to request grant money, work with municipalities or make repairs to the property and is currently negotiating to purchase the property.
