Thirteen TN wrestlers advance to 2A semis

When the first day of District 11's Class 2A individual wrestling tournament came to a close, 13 area athletes had punched their tickets to tomorrow's semifinals

Lehighton led the way with four. Aiden Gruber (113), Nicholas Zeigenfuss (120), Lukas Ferguson (126) and Richard Fronheiser (172) all advanced for the Tribe.

Tamaqua and Northern Lehigh both placed three each into the semis.

Gabe Erbe (106), Aaron Coccio (145) and Nate Wickersham (215) all moved on for the Raiders, while Brenden Smay (113), Trevor Amorim (152) and Josh Schaffer (285) are through for the Bulldogs.

Northwestern's Dalton Clymer (145) and Ben Griffith (152), along with Jim Thorpe's Derek Hunter (285) are also into the semis.

Smay, Coccio and Wickersham are all top seeds at their respective weight classes.

Both Schaffer and Amorim were district runners-up last season.

Coccio will square off with Clymer in the 145 semis, while Schaffer and Hunter will meet at 285 in a rematch of last year's semifinal, which Schaffer won.

In Class 3A, no Pleasant Valley wrestlers made it to the semifinals.

Just two wrestlers move on to next week's regional tournament in Class 2A, while three advance in 3A.

Action resumes tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. with the semifinals and consolation quarterfinals, followed by the consi semis at 2:30. The championship finals and consolation finals will take place at 3:30 p.m.
