Carbon director says mail ballot application

Carbon County election officials are asking anyone who received a permanent mail-in application to return either the completed application or the cancellation form.

On Thursday, Lisa Dart, elections director, said that her office mailed approximately 8,200 permanent mail-in application letters but only have received about 2,000 back.

“If you do not want to do a permanent mail-in, I would strongly suggest you mail in the cancellation form to us,” she said, noting that while the state said you can just disregard the letter, she would like to have a cancellation signature on file. “I would feel more comfortable if we have your signature and we can enter into your file that you canceled the request.”

Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein agreed, noting that he had discussions with several municipal officials, who commented about the permanent mail-in letters.

He said that if a person checked the permanent mail-in box on the mail-in application before the primary, they would get the letter.

“If you have a question, I would recommend you contact the election office and they can check your application because a lot of people don’t remember checking that box,” Nothstein said.

Dart said of the applications that were returned so far, some people have completed both the application and then signed the cancellation form. Only one or the other should be returned.

She stressed that if a voter has any questions, they should contact the elections office during business hours.

In related elections news, petitions for the upcoming election are circulating now and must be filed by March 9.

Dart said that anyone who needs a petition should come to the elections office who hasn’t done so yet because they are not mailing or emailing anything.
