Man assaults wife, threatens to shoot mother-in-law, law enforcement officers
A Saylorsburg man is headed to court on charges of threatening to shoot his mother-in-law and law enforcement officers after he assaulted his wife.
He waived the charges on Friday before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Justin Magluilo of the Pennsylvania State Police Lehighton barracks in the case against Jonathan Finch:
At 8:20 p.m. Jan. 25, a woman contacted the Pennsylvania State Police and reported being assaulted by her husband, Finch, 27.
She said Finch had a gun and had been discharging rounds while highly intoxicated during this domestic dispute.
Troopers were dispatched and began traveling toward the Finch residence in the 2200 block of Lakeview Drive, Ross Township.
Another call was received from the Finch residence and Pennsylvania State Police were notified that the gun had been taken from Finch and hidden from him.
When police arrived, Finch was outside in the driveway, and he appeared highly intoxicated, was staggering and had slurred speech.
Finch said he had been consuming alcoholic beverages, and appeared disheveled and had some minor injuries consistent with a fight.
Trooper Scott Wysocky assisted in detaining Finch while the investigation continued.
Magluilo interviewed the victim, who said that Finch pushed her, struck her in the arm and struck her in the chest during a dispute over the death of a family member.
She complained of pain in her right arm, and also related that after striking her, he went to the closet and obtained the 9 millimeter rifle from the closet, and went to the living room and retrieved a loaded magazine for the gun.
The victim said that Finch inserted the magazine and began discharging a volley or firing sequence of shots randomly from the front door of the residence, though he was not aiming at anything in particular.
The victim’s mother had been in the living room with a 2-year-old, who is the child of Finch, and the victim began screaming to her mother to contact 911.
Finch, upon hearing his wife’s request that 911 be contacted, entered the living room and threatened the victim’s mother. He pointed the rifle at her and said he would shoot her if she contacted 911.
Finch also threatened to shoot any law enforcement officers who would respond to the call.
The victim’s brother came to the residence and met with Finch, who became combative quickly and began hitting him.
The brother and Finch began to fight, allowing the woman to grab the gun and hide it.
Finch faces charges on two counts of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another; and one count each of aggravated assault; endangering welfare of children; recklessly endangering another person; simple assault; disorderly conduct; and harassment.
He is scheduled for formal arraignment March 31 before Judge Jonathan Mark.
