Meadow Avenue project continues in Rush Township

Rush Township's Safe Route to School project in the Meadow Avenue area may continue with tweaks throughout the next few weeks.

During a meeting Thursday, supervisors advised residents to sign up for "red alerts" by using the township's website. That way, they'll get updates on the status of the project and any proposed changed.Originally, the plan called for sidewalks to be completed on one side of Meadow Avenue for several blocks. However, contractor Heim Construction may instead go block by block, completing the sidewalk work on both sides of each block.Supervisors hoped to open bids for the paving work which would close out the project. Heim will pave the area that's cut out to build the sidewalks. According to the plan, when the sidewalk work was complete, Meadow Avenue would then get a coat of paving from curb to curb. However, no bids were received for that portion of the project, which will have to be put off until spring. Bill McMullin, Arro Engineering, said the bid specs were sent to nine companies, but none responded. The supervisors did award a $62,750 contract to Dirt Work Solutions, Slatington, for a storm sewer replacement on Wayne Avenue. The bid was awarded pending review by Arro Engineering, the township's engineering firm.In other business, the supervisors approved spending $20,431 to purchase 12 replacement grinder pump cores for the Lake Hauto sewer system. They also will spend $700 to purchase a new time clock, which will record employee's time via their fingerprints. The time clock will be used for road department, police and secretarial employees. The supervisors reminded residents that properties will be posted for water shut off due to non-payment of sewer bills. If the water can't be shut off on a property, it will be put into the sheriff sale process.
