Carbon County commissioners
The Carbon County Commissioners, on Thursday, discussed or acted on the following motions.
• Approved advertising for a request for proposal for the food and refreshment concession lease at Mauch Chunk Lake Park.
• Approved the appointment of Robert Sikorsky of Palmerton to fill the vacancy of a five-year term on the Parks and Recreation Commission. The term expires on Dec. 31, 2023.
• Approved the award of $24,715.98 for the 2020/2021 Juvenile Probation Services grant for salary reimbursement of the juvenile court office from July 1 through June 30, 2021.
• Approved the changes in boat mooring rates for the Mauch Chunk Lake Park setting the fees for $50 for the first space and $60 for the second space for county residents; and $80 for the first space and $100 for the second space for noncounty residents.
• Approved a quote from Mountain Side Tree Service to clear the area needed by PPL for the power line to the new Emergency Operations and Training Center on the Broad Mountain in Nesquehoning. The proposal is in the amount of $5,000 and requires the contract to remove the timber. Mountain Side Service will have Brad Konstas Lawn Care assist with the project.
• Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said that things are going OK after the first week of using the kiosk system for parking in the county lot. He thanked residents and visitors for their patience and said the county will continue to work to improve.
• Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that the county met with the contractors on the D&L trail project to move portions of the trail out of the county lot. He said weather pending tree removal may begin in March and an anticipated completion date for the project is the end of June.

• Retirement: Kim A. Steigerwalt of Lehighton, chief assessor, tax assessment, effective March 5.
• Resignation: Jason D. Comisac-Nelson of Mary D, part-time dispatcher, effective Feb. 8.
• Court appointment: Jeremy R. Adams of Stroudsburg, probation office I, adult probation, effective Feb. 1.
• Hire: Gerald A. Tone of Pottsville, county caseworker II, children and youth services, effective Feb. 1.
• Change of status: Timothy B. Dugan of Allentown, from deputy sheriff to sergeant, sheriff’s office, effective Feb. 1.
