A Coaldale woman has died from injuries suffered in a crash in Rush Township on Tuesday.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s office said Amber Lynn Schwoyer, 18, died at 6:17 p.m. Wednesday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. The cause of death, multiple traumatic injuries due to motor vehicle accident.

She was the driver of a motor vehicle that struck another vehicle.

The incident occurred at 11:02 a.m. in front of 83 Claremont Avenue, Tamaqua, Rush Township.

Rush Township police said five people involved in this crash required medical treatment.

The incident happened when Schwoyer, driving a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, was in the northbound passing lane when she lost control.

Her vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by a 55-year-old man from Tamaqua, who police declined to identify.

The Chrysler then collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado truck driven by a 29-year-old man from Summit Hill, who police declined to identify. The collision between the Chrysler and Mercury caused the driver’s side rear tire be torn from the Chrysler.

Police said a 13-year-old boy from Tamaqua, a front seat passenger in the van, also had life-threatening injuries and is in the pediatric intensive care unit of LVH Cedar Crest.

A third passenger in the vehicle, a 3-month-old girl, is being treated in the pediatric unit of LVH Cedar Crest for a broken bone and other related injuries.

The driver of the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer was transported by private vehicle for treatment at Miners Campus of St. Luke’s Hospital in Coaldale. He was later released.

The driver of the Silverado, was initially treated at the scene by EMS personnel and transported via ambulance to LVH Hazleton Campus for treatment.

He was stabilized, and then transferred to LVH Cedar Crest for additional treatment for moderate injuries, police said. Rush police were assisted at the scene by EMS units from Ryan Township, McAdoo, Tamaqua and Lehighton; state police; and Hometown Fire Company firefighters and fire police.
