Carbon County prison’s COVID-19 cases are holding steady, officials said.
On Wednesday, during the monthly county prison board, Warden Timothy Fritz said that the number of positive cases in inmates at the facility stands at 76.
He told the board that the medical director plans to retest those inmates on Feb. 8.
Some are showing mild symptoms, but Fritz said that there have been no major side effects to the virus at this point and no one has needed to be hospitalized.
The prison was hit hard by the virus earlier this month when the number ballooned from three inmates to 58 and then 76.
The current inmate population in the prison as of Wednesday was 169.
The county has also been working to continue coverage at the prison after several staff members were out.
Officials did not comment on the number of staff currently out at the prison during Wednesday’s meeting.
In other matters, the board spoke about slight policy changes to the work-release program after President Judge Roger Nanovic raised a few questions.
Changes that they are looking to make include eligibility requirements.
