Police report on area crashes

Police reported on crashes throughout the region.

State police at Frackville reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers in Schuylkill County:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 1:24 a.m. on Jan. 18 along East Main Street in Butler Township. Troopers said Dakota M. Koreisl, 18, of Wilburton, Columbia County, was driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The Jeep went onto the north berm and struck multiple trees and an embankment. The Jeep came to rest on its passenger side in a ditch.

Koreisl was not injured but the Jeep was towed. Koreisl was cited for the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 7:57 a.m. on Jan. 16 along Interstate 81 in Kline Township. Bianca L. Pizarro, 22, of Hazleton was driving a 2019 Honda HR-V on the on ramp to I-81 northbound negotiating a right hand curve. She lost control of the vehicle and struck the guide rail along the right berm. Troopers said the road was wet due to a recent snowfall.

Pizarra suffered a minor injury. The Honda was towed.

• A Carbon County driver was involved in a crash in Luzerne County.

State police at Hazleton said the crash occurred at 7:09 p.m. on Jan. 15 along Commerce Drive at the intersection with Forest Road, in Hazle Township.

Shannon M. Frye, 21, of Weatherly, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze on Forest Road and approaching the intersection with Commerce Drive. She traveled through the intersection due to the foggy conditions and struck a curb on the east side of Commerce Drive. The vehicle then traveled into a field and came to final rest.

Frye and her passenger, Edgar M. Ramirez, 29, of West Hazleton, were not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.

She was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• Troopers also reported investigating a crash at 5:51 p.m. on Jan. 14 along the exit ramp of Interstate 81 in Sugarloaf Township.

Troopers said Michelle J. Levine, 53, of Sugarloaf, was driving a 2018 Toyota Rav4 northbound on the off-ramp behind a 2011 Ford Escape driven by Joseph J. Taris, 69, of Mahanoy City. Taris stopped due to traffic on the ramp and his vehicle was struck in the rear by Levine’s, who was unable to stop in time.

Taris suffered a minor injury. Levine was not injured.

Levine was cited for following too closely.
