For the seventh year in a row that ladies of St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Old Stage Road in Albrightsville are busy giving away clothing to families in need of a little extra help.
"We start collecting in June because some families go on vacation, but mainly we collect in the first part of July," said Shirley Leinthall. "We always start from scratch, with nothing."The basement of the little church is bursting at the seams with gently used clothing in all sizes and age ranges. The clothes are divided into gender, size and age group by the volunteers before they open to the public."We collect, sort, size, fold and organize the clothes," Leinthall says. "Then we have to have volunteers here to cover the hours for distribution as well."The distribution is underway now and will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Saturday."I always ask people where they are from and how they heard about us," Leinthall said."We have people who come from Palmerton, Walnutport, Lansford and Jim Thorpe. I am starting to recognize people who have come in previous years."The distribution will end on Saturday and the group will then contact other organizations that collect and distribute clothing and donate the remaining items to those groups.Leinthall is grateful for all the help she gets every year and wanted to make sure all of the volunteers know that their hard work is appreciated.
