The Truskey Run, a 25-year-tradition in Tamaqua, will kick off its 2015 edition this weekend at Tuscarora State Park.
The run is set to take place this Saturday at 10 a.m., with registration from 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m.Over its 25 year history, the run has been responsible for raising more than $70,000 that has been dispersed to local students as scholarships.This race is held in memory of Chris and Kevin Truskey, sons of Pat and Wayne Truskey who were both tragically killed in automobile accidents 12 years apart. Both these young men were active in running sports and wrestling as well as being very active in their church.The competitive event includes a 5K walk, 5K run and 10K run. The course travels through scenic Tuscarora State Park, on paths and macadam surfaces. Free food, beverages and door prizes are available to participants. Plaques will be awarded to overall 5K and 10K winners, with medals given to other winners in specific age categories.
The annual Truskey Run scholarships were recently presented to several members of the Class of 2015. On hand for the presentation were, front: Joshua Ambrose-Manness, Jennifer Beers, Matthew Werner; rear: Pat Truskey, Jonathan Condly, Jake Saxon, Wayne Truskey. Winners who were unable to attend were: Jacob Gursky, Jessica Yeneskie and Sam Ramsay.
