Painting to be auctioned for charity

Portrait artist Stephen Bennett of Tamaqua has donated an original 72-by-48-inch acrylic-on-canvas painting of American Pharoah's historic Triple Crown win, the first Triple Crown Winner in 37 years.

The horse drew much attention during its Triple Crown run, in part for its amazing skill, but also for the misspelling of the horse's name.The horse originally was named Pharaoh, according to reports, but an error on an electronic registration form spelled the name "Pharoah."The incorrect spelling, Pharoah, is now trademarked.Victor Espinoza was American Pharoah's rider. Bob Baffert served as the horse's trainer. The owner of American Pharoah is Ahmed Zayat.Bennett will be in San Diego to present this portrait at the Del Mar Hilton today.
