Several activities are planned for the month of May at Tuscarora and Locust Lake state parks in Barnesville, Schuylkill County.

Naturalist Robin Tracey will lead a hike on the Crow, Lake View and new Roc Loop trails at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The hike is 7 miles long and moderate to difficult. The trail crosses over two creeks and runs parallel to the lake. There will be a spectacular view from the dam and explore the state game lands near the spillway pond. Meet in the Crow Trail parking lot off Tuscarora Mountain Road. Call Tracey at 570-467-2506 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for more information or weather conditions. This is a dog-friendly hike but all pets must be leashed and get along with other pets and people. Shine only.Conservation volunteer and avid birder, John Domalakes, will lead an early morning bird walk on Saturdayat 7:30 a.m. The walk will begin in the Locust Lake visitor parking lot. Those attending are encouraged to bring along binoculars and a favorite field guide. Some binoculars will be available to borrow. The trail loops around Locust Creek and traverses up the mountain for a really great view of the forest below. Part of the hike includes the "Tree Indentification Trail" created by one of the area Eagle Scouts. Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed and get along with other pets and people. The trail is 4.5 miles long and moderate in difficulty. The trail winds through several diverse habitats with a beautiful view of the Tuscarora Lake cove. Meet in the upper beach parking lot near the trailhead. Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed and get along with people and other pets. Shine only, and bring a lunch.Conservation volunteer and avid birder David Kruel will lead a bird walk onMay 21, at 7:30 a.m. The walk will begin at Tuscarora State Park visitor center. Kruel will offer helpful information about how to identify the local and migratory songbirds by sight, song, habitat and behavior. The walk is sponsored by the Schuylkill Conservancy. Those attending are encouraged to bring along binoculars. This is not a pet-friendly walk. Shine only.These events are open to the public.
