Each year the Concourse Club of Palmerton honors five Guiding Stars from the Palmerton Area High School. The Guiding Stars are chosen by a committee of high school educators in the district.

A Guiding Star must be a female student in the top 25 percent of the senior class and be involved in both school and community activities. Each Guiding Star receives a certificate, an engraved Guiding Star charm, and a $100 cash award.Erika Nichole Beers was recognized at the March 3 Concourse Club meeting at St. John's Lutheran Church. Erika is the daughter of Allyson DeHart. She has a sister, Alyssa, who was also a Guiding Star when she was a Palmerton senior.Erika's guests at the meeting were her mother and sister. She recognized both her mother and sister as her guiding stars for their determination, education and passion.Erika's hobbies include hunting, fishing and basketball. Sports, the outdoors, Disney and medical-related topics are of interest to Erika.Her school activities include National Honor Society, Student Council, Leo Club, Future Business Leaders of America, and the yearbook. Erika is also a class officer.Erika has participated in tutoring, PTO baby-sitting, volunteering at a soup kitchen and has been active in her church while serving her community.Erika will continue her education at Slippery Rock University, where she will major in pre-physical therapy and exercise science.The Concourse Club extends best wishes to Ericka for continued success as she reaches for the stars and guides others.
