Tamaqua fuel terminal to close

For years, there have been rumors of the imminent closing of the Sunoco fuel terminal on Taggertsville Road/Tuscarora Park Road (bottom of Hometown Hill) in Tamaqua. Those rumors have finally come true, as the TIMES NEWS has learned this morning that Sunoco Logistics will be closing its Tamaqua terminal as of June 1, 2012.

Local dealers have been notified by Sunoco Inc. of the closing, which will affect all local companies providing customers with heating oil, ultra low sulphur diesel fuel and kerosene. The Sunoco company has provided local businesses with alternative depots, including Northumberland and Fullerton for heating oil, Fullerton for kerosene and Northumberland, Fullerton, Montello and Kingston for the diesel fuel.A majority of our region's fuel oil companies get their fuel from the Tamaqua terminal. Fuel delivery companies are stressing their concern regarding added travel fuel cost, time on the road, manpower, time waiting in already congested terminal lines and wear and tear on their trucks.Look for further details in the Saturday edition of the TIMES NEWS.
