The Palmerton United Veterans organization is holding a fundraising event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Country Harvest market in Palmerton.

Baked goods and hot foods will be for sale.The public is invited to donate baked goods to raise money toward bringing the Vietnam Moving wall replica to Palmerton. Anyone who is willing to donate baked goods can drop them at the veterans stand from 8 to 9 a.m. Sunday.Proceeds from this event will help defray the expenses involved in the Moving Wall project.The Moving Wall will be in the Palmerton Borough Park from July 21 through 25.A special opening ceremony will be held by the Palmerton UVO on July 2, as well as other ceremonies through out the week.The half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., the wall has been touring the country for over 30 years.It comes complete with more than 58,000 names of those who lost their lives in the Vietnam War including two Palmerton natives, Spc. 4th Class Neal Bollinger and Pvt. 1st Class Clifford Sell.Along with the moving wall project, veterans are planning to erect a flagpole in the area of the welcome to Palmerton. They are also recruiting young members for the chapter of Sons of the American Legion.Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires.S.A.L. members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership.
