Palmerton Area School District has hired a new director of special education.

By a unanimous measure, the school board on Tuesday approved Suzanne Rentschler as Director of Special Education at the salary of $86,500, effective July 1.Rentschler has most recently served as Weatherly Area School District's Special Education Facilitator.Robert Dailey had been Palmerton's director of special education since July of 2008.After the meeting, Superintendent Scot Engler declined to discuss Dailey's status, and said it was a personnel matter.When asked if Dailey was still employed by the district, Engler again declined to comment.
