Pleasant Valley School District announced this afternoon that another student has tested positive for the coronavirus at the high school.
“This is our second case within two weeks,” said Superintendent Lee Lesisko.
In accordance with guidelines set up by the state Department of Education and the school district’s Health and Safety Plan, a school with multiple cases of the virus must close for a period of time. The length of time depends on the number of positive cases and the rate of community transfer in the state.
Currently, Monroe County is at a moderate level of transmission in the community.
The level of transmission in the community coupled with the number of cases at the high school (two people) means that the high school has to close for five to seven days. Lesisko said students at the high school will transition to remote learning (online instruction) now through Wednesday, Nov. 18. Wednesdays are always online instruction. Students may come back to classes at the high school on Nov. 19.
Classes at the Pleasant Valley Middle School, Intermediate School and Elementary School will continue to operate on a normal schedule.
